UBOOT – Wolves of the Kriegsmarine is a fully cooperative, real-time board game of submarine warfare during World War II. It allows 1 to 4 players to take on the roles of Captain, First Officer, Navigator, and Chief Engineer aboard a Type VIIC submarine. The game is driven by a companion app that must be downloaded, allowing for an unprecedented level of realism as well as a challenging enemy Artificial Intelligence. This app introduces ambient sounds, changing weather conditions, and more. The action takes place on both a strategic and tactical scale, always requiring teamwork, efficient crew management, and quick situational assessment. Players will take command of a submarine and must complete the missions assigned by the German High Command. These missions may require players to locate and destroy enemy convoys, escape from Allied traps, or break through a naval blockade, among many others. Each player will control one of the four available roles, each with unique functions. Each of these functions carries specific responsibilities, encouraging players to develop an efficient communication scheme and to use real naval terminology. The Captain oversees the mission objectives, manages the action point costs, and is responsible for crew morale. The First Officer operates the companion app, manages the flow of information, and takes care of the crew’s health. The Navigator steers the submarine by setting its course and depth, and also updates all The idea behind the companion app is to offer a realistic real-time gaming experience. To do this, the app features the submarine’s most essential instruments (such as the periscope, hydrophone, and Enigma machine, among others). However, rest assured that the vast majority of the game takes place on the game board, with the instruments revealing information that would otherwise remain hidden, and the app only requiring certain data (such as the submarine’s heading, speed, etc.) to generate an appropriate AI. It is also responsible for all ambient sound effects, immersing players even deeper into the claustrophobic interiors of the Type VIIC. But fear not! Face different challenges aboard the submarine. From quick skirmishes, to full combat missions, to an entire campaign, UBOOT – Wolves of the Kriegsmarine will allow you to carry out submarine operations in all major naval theaters of World War II. The success of these missions depends on performing various tasks delegated to the crew by the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine (German Navy High Command), including patrolling, ambushing convoys, laying mines in enemy waters, and many more. Each mission will require players to adopt different strategies and play styles to complete it successfully, and the companion app will generate a detailed report at the end of each game session (evaluating the player’s efforts and possibly granting decorations, promotions, etc.).
