Description
HISPANIA – The Roman Conquest At the beginning of the 2nd century BC, the Roman Republic had just defeated its greatest nightmare, the Carthaginian Hannibal. After annexing Carthaginian holdings on the Mediterranean coast of Hispania, Rome organized them into the provinces of Ulterior and Citerior and ordered its praetors to complete the conquest of the peninsula, inhabited by loosely organized peoples. However, these Hispanians prove to be a formidable enemy. HISPANIA is a cooperative and competitive game where 1 to 3 players assume the roles of all the praetors and consuls sent to Hispania over two centuries. The objective: subdue all the peoples of the peninsula before the turn of the millennium, incorporating Hispania into the empire, emulating Caesar Augustus. The fate of Hispania is in your hands! How to Play The goal is to control all regions by placing garrisons in the Hispanic capitals before revolts spread or the revolt tokens run out. If either occurs, the game is lost. Player Turn Each player receives denarii to perform actions: Attack a Hispanic army. Besiege a city in revolt. Move a general or fleet. Place or remove garrisons in a city. Hispanian Turn After players’ actions, the Hispanians spread their threat, extending revolts and moving armies to try to capture new cities. Dice are rolled to determine movement when multiple options exist. Combat When a general is adjacent to an army or city in revolt, combat or siege can occur. Roman attack value depends on: Denarii spent on the attack. Value of garrisons connected to the general. Support from other generals present. The enemy army adds its connected revolt tokens to the dice. A general can be defeated, consuming resources and increasing the recruitment effort for new armies.
