Designed by the legendary Reiner Knizia, one of the most prolific and renowned board game designers in the world, Ingenious can be enjoyed by 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, in sessions of around 45 minutes. The goal is to score as many points as possible by placing tiles on the board so that the symbols on the tiles match. Sounds easy, right? Ingenious is perfect for those who don’t want to read long rulebooks or listen to lengthy tutorials. Within minutes of opening the box, players are already placing tiles on the board. These tiles, made of two hexagons joined by one side, display colored symbols or geometric shapes. On their turn, players place a tile on the hexagonal board, and the more identical symbols are adjacent, the more points are scored for that symbol. However, at the end of the game, only the points of the symbol with the lowest score count. This means players must keep all symbols balanced and avoid letting any fall behind. The 120 tiles are mixed in an opaque bag, and each turn players draw tiles to place in their play area. Since each player starts with 6 tiles, there are always multiple options available. In short, on each turn, players place a tile, record points on their personal score tracker, and draw a new tile from the bag. The real challenge lies in choosing the optimal placement for each tile.
