D-Day at Omaha Beach. DEVIR

This solitaire game simulates the twelve crucial hours of June 6, 1944, during which United States amphibious forces assaulted a stretch of beach under German control on the Norman coast of Calvados, France. Since then, that beach has been known by its code name: Omaha Beach. Of the five beaches where Allied troops landed during D-Day, Omaha was the one that suffered the highest casualties and required the greatest effort to secure. For several hours on that June day, the fate of the invasion hung by a thread; in the end, despite failures in the Allied plan, the heroism and initiative of the American soldiers prevailed, and a viable beachhead was established. Designed by John Butterfield, this edition features a complete graphic redesign, both on the game cover, illustrated by David Esbrí, and in the design of the more than 350 counters, carried out by Antonio Catalán. The box also includes a facsimile edition of Time magazine from the period, explaining the historical context of the Normandy landings. In D-Day: Omaha Beach, the player controls the U.S. forces landing on the beach and attempting to secure a foothold on French soil against unexpectedly intense German resistance. The game system automatically manages the German forces opposing the player. At the start of the game, each turn represents 15 minutes of real time. Later on, the time scale expands to 30 minutes per turn, and new rules are introduced to reflect the evolution of American and German tactics throughout the day.
