The game The Color Monster is back… more compact than ever! A new edition of the children’s game based on the popular book by Anna Llenas arrives in an ideal format to take anywhere and with a reduced price. In this version, the box itself becomes part of the game: inside, one half includes the printed board and the other a tray to hold the jars. Playing in a small space is no longer a problem!
The Color Monster is a cooperative board game for children that the whole family will enjoy. Designed by Josep Maria Allué and Dani Gómez, games last around 30 minutes and it is recommended for ages 4 and up. Besides being fun, the game is an excellent educational tool that helps young children recognize and understand their basic emotions.
Just like in the story, the monster has gotten confused with emotions and his body is full of colors. Players must work together to help him recognize what he is feeling and understand what is happening to him. Taking turns, they roll the die to move the monster around the board and collect tokens representing the basic emotions: joy, sadness, fear, calm, and anger, which must be placed into the different jars.
To obtain these tokens, players must tell a story or personal experience related to the corresponding emotion. Afterwards, they choose one of the eight available jars without knowing what it contains: it may be one of the five emotions or one of the three muddles. If all three muddles appear before the monster has understood every emotion… you’ll have to start over!
Luckily, players have the help of Nuna, the monster’s friend, who knows how to bring order to emotions. When her face appears on the die, Nuna moves to the monster’s space and flips over one of the muddle jars. Players will need a good memory and must remember where each emotion jar is if they want to win the game.
Both children and adults will enjoy helping the monster bring order to his emotions. At the same time, the game creates a safe space to share experiences related to basic emotions, allowing children to express themselves openly. In this way, they will discover that, just like the monster, people can also feel confused about how we feel.
