You’re part of a team of rookie astronauts sent on a real mission, in a real spaceship, in real outer space! Exciting, right? It would be… if anyone actually knew what they were doing. It would’ve been nice to have at least one experienced pilot on board, but now that you’re here, you’ll have to figure it out as you go. Designed by Johannes Krenner and Markus Slawitscheck, Novices in Space offers games for 3 to 5 players, ages 10 and up, lasting around 15 minutes. This cooperative space adventure presents different challenges across several levels in which players must work together to complete tasks. Novices in Space is played over eight levels. The goal of each game is to complete a variety of tasks in each level. All the information needed to solve them successfully appears on the cards; however, the cards are dealt randomly, and players must piece the puzzle together. At first, no one knows what the cards are for or what to do with them. Cards may not be revealed at any time, so you’ll need to communicate as effectively as possible if you want to succeed. Every player has a small part of the solution needed to complete the tasks: you just need to figure out how to combine all the clues as quickly as possible. While one player might know the task at hand but not have the resources to carry it out, those resources might be in the hands of other players. Since cards cannot be shown to one another, players must communicate clearly, describing or reading cards aloud to gradually discover what needs to be done. To complete each level, you’ll set a timer and earn a certain number of stars depending on your achievements. After playing all levels, you’ll add up the stars obtained to determine your final score. To make learning the rules easy and enjoyable, the game includes a tutorial that guides you step by step through everything you need to do in your first game.
