French Army is the second expansion for the game The Great War and is set, as its name indicates, during the battles involving the French Army. When Germany declared war on Russia on August 1, 1914, France honored its treaty with Russia and mobilized to confront the German offensive. As expected, Germany marched through Belgium… and the rest is history. Although the French Army fought in many battles, the scenarios in this expansion focus on their most famous campaign: Verdun. The Battle of Verdun took place from February to December 1916 and stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of the French armed forces. The French Army expansion includes 12 scenarios from this famous battle. The box contains: Instruction and scenario manual 2 summary sheets of special personnel and terrain 3 punched cardboard sheets of double-sided terrain tiles Various types of markers A complete French army of poilus (French soldiers) in plastic: 48 infantry figures 3 French bombers 3 machine gun teams (each with 1 machine gun and 4 soldiers) 3 mortar teams (each with 1 mortar and 4 soldiers) 14 figures of special personnel: engineers, flamethrowers, light machine gunners, and spotters.
