Thebai Dark times loom over the kingdom of Thebes. The elderly and blind King Oedipus left the throne in disgrace and asked his sons, Polynices and Eteocles, to rule the city together. However, power corrupts, and old grudges demand new bloodshed. Soon, Polynices leads an army from the rival city of Argos against his own brother. The Theban nobles support Eteocles while he maintains a precarious rule over Thebes. The young king calls for defenders to guard the seven gates of the city, as the seven champions of the invaders lead the attack. Meanwhile, the famed citadel of Thebes, Cadmea, lies in chaos, having fallen into disrepair since the days of Oedipus’ father, King Laius. It seems as if the Moirai themselves have plotted against the current rulers of Thebes! In Thebai, players take on the roles of influential leaders of noble families during the turbulent late Bronze Age. Throughout the game, they must rebuild Cadmea, the citadel of Thebes, restore the city’s exports, honor the gods, and protect the lives of citizens, witnessing the clash of great heroes who shed their blood beyond the city gates.
