Step into the shoes of a fierce pirate navigating the most dangerous seas in search of treasures. If you want to arrive with your ship intact, you must team up with another corsair and play your best hand of cards. Are you ready for the challenge?
Sail is a cooperative trick-taking game for two players, where you must deduce your partner's intentions and play cards that, combined, allow you to advance your ship or defeat the kraken. Designed by Akiyama Koryo and Kozu Yusei and illustrated by Weberson Santiago, Sail offers sessions for two players, ages 11 and up, lasting around 20 minutes. The goal is to bring the ship to its destination without being destroyed by the kraken. Through card plays, players move the ship and activate abilities to protect it from the sea monster.
To start Sail, set up the board according to the chosen scenario; each player takes a pirate card with a powerful ability, the main deck is prepared with cards numbered 3 to 9, and the kraken deck is prepared. The game consists of 5 rounds (or fewer). Outside of these rounds, players may discuss strategy, but once the cards are dealt, no communication is allowed until the last trick of the round is played.
As in other trick-taking games, the player who leads determines the suit to be played. The highest number of the same color wins the trick. If the cards played form a combination of symbols (steering wheels, kraken tentacles, whale tails, or cannons), an action is triggered. These actions move the ship, damage it, or attack the kraken. Proper coordination will help you reach your objective, while miscoordination may lead to turbulent waters.
Whether you enjoy cooperative titles or card games, Sail will fit perfectly in your collection. Packaged in a small box and affordably priced, it offers increasing challenges across multiple scenarios. Are you ready to sail the seas, buccaneers?
