The preparations for the expedition are complete. You will search for valuable artifacts while facing all kinds of dangers. However, rival adventurers follow you, trying to snatch your glory. Put on your hat and embark on the adventure! In Venturesome, you will recruit a diverse group of adventurers in hopes of finding a series of ancient treasures. You must use the skills of your expedition members and be wary of ever-present threats. You will also need to try to foil the plans of your rivals, who are ready to steal, manipulate, or use any dirty trick at their disposal to claim your artifacts and achieve victory.
Designed by Michael Rieneck and illustrated by Paulina Opak, Venturesome is a card game that can be played in pairs or groups of up to 5 players, from 10 years old, with sessions lasting around 30 minutes. The goal of the game is to collect the most victory points over three rounds. Are you up for the challenge?
Each player starts with 6 character cards (the expedition members). Each of them has a unique power that affects the game in different ways, from exchanging cards with other players to returning cards to your hand or intimidating certain characters. On each turn, you must play 1 character card from your hand onto the table and resolve its effect. This means your expedition grows with each subsequent turn.
Expedition members must be distinct, so at some point during the game, it will become impossible to play another card. When this happens, your participation in the current round ends, you must resolve one of the available threat cards, and set aside the collected expedition members, which will form your personal treasure pile. These cards will grant points at the end of the game. The threat cards, however, will affect your expedition members and the treasures and artifacts obtained.
As in the best adventures, the outcome of each expedition round is difficult to predict. Now it’s time to decide: do you want to save your skin and gather treasures, or sabotage your rivals’ plans? You can always try to do both… if you’re willing to take the risk!
