The Cosmere of Brandon Sanderson leaps from the books to the tabletop with Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game. This title puts us in the shoes of the protagonists from The Final Empire (the first volume of the saga) and allows us to play either cooperatively—facing the Lord Ruler—or competitively, against each other. Designed by John D. Clair (Ready Set Bet, Space Base) and illustrated by David Álvarez Astruga, Valeria Casale, and Logan Feliciano, in Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game players gradually improve their personal decks by acquiring new and powerful cards from a central market. On your turn, you’ll burn different metals to activate card powers and trigger various effects, such as dealing damage or advancing on mission tracks. As in most deckbuilding games, you start with a simple initial deck. This starter deck includes money cards, which are used to make purchases in the market, and metal cards with basic powers. In the market, you’ll find stronger cards and allies that will help you achieve victory. As the game progresses, your characters become stronger and can burn more metals, allowing you to activate more cards. In competitive mode, this means that, turn by turn, you’ll advance faster through the three mission tracks and deal more damage to your opponents. In cooperative mode, you’ll be able to face the wrath of the Lord Ruler more effectively. Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game can also be enjoyed solo—a true challenge for the sharpest players. It’s a title that no fan of Sanderson’s work should miss, as it faithfully brings the essence of Mistborn to the tabletop, with its system of burning and flaring metals. However, beyond the theme, it will also appeal to board and card game enthusiasts in general, thanks to its versatility and the wide variety of cards found in the deck. A brilliant game in every sense.
