Adventure Games: Hotel Abaddon is a cooperative investigation and adventure game, designed by Phil Walker-Harding, Matthew Dunstan, and Ute Wielandt. It can be played by 1 to 4 players, ages 12 and up, in 3 game sessions of 75 to 90 minutes. All components are reusable, as they are neither broken nor destroyed during play.
In Adventure Games: Hotel Abaddon, players are guests at the mysterious Grand Hotel Abaddon. After a year of hard work, you plan to enjoy a well-deserved vacation, but what should be a peaceful retreat turns into a series of strange incidents. Together with the other guests, you must investigate what is happening by exploring rooms and halls, talking to characters, and combining various objects.
To start the game, place the card of the room where the adventure begins in the center of the table. This card shows numbers associated with objects to interact with and locations to investigate. Throughout the 3 chapters of the story, players can perform one of the following actions on their turn:
Explore a location by following the indicated card number and discover what happens there.
Combine two adventure cards (objects found during the game) to unlock effects.
Combine a location card with an adventure card to interact with the environment in new ways.
Depending on the objects found, players can combine them to modify the story. Objects can even be combined with already explored locations, enhancing replayability. The team’s decisions determine the different possible endings.
With the feel of classic “choose your own adventure” books, Adventure Games: Hotel Abaddon allows players to become part of a unique story and decide its ending: where to go, which objects to combine, and whom to talk to. Additionally, an app can be used to facilitate exploration and increase immersion in the story. Will you solve the puzzles and uncover the mysteries of the Grand Hotel Abaddon?
